Benjamin Ricketts was born about 1755 in Elizabethtown, Frederick (then Montgomery) County, Maryland which is now Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. His father was Anthony Ricketts. Starting on September 30, 1775, a Benjamin Ricketts served in Captain William Bradford's Company #13, in Harford County, Maryland militia. According to Frederick County, Maryland, Militia in the War of 1812 a Benjamin Rickets served from August 31, 1814 to October 27, 1814 under Captain John Galt. Captain Galt's Company was part of the 3rd Regiment, 2nd Division, 11th Brigade. They left Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Mayland on August 26th, 1814 and marched to Baltimore. Emmitsburg is just east of Hagerstown. They arrived at Camp Hampstead on August 31st. Henry Green recalled the company being stationed at the Chincapin Hill entrenchments. "It rained a great deal. Mud and water were almost knee deep." He married Ruth Wells.
